The Dolomites Cycleway – La Lunga Via delle Dolomiti

In SPECIALI by admin / 14 novembre 2012 / 0 Comments

The Dolomites Cycleway is renowned as one of the most spectacular cycle routes in Europe. This is thanks to the landscape through which it extends, surrounded by famous peaks in the Dolomites range including the Antelao, Pelmo, Croda Marcora and the Tofane. It connects Calalzo di Cadore to Cortina d’Ampezzo before continuing to Cimabanche, where Belluno province ends and that of Bolzano begins. The cycleway follows the tracks of the old Dolomites railway, built during the First World War and closed in 1964. Along the route, which plunges into spectacular tunnels and crosses fast torrents over breathtaking bridges, one can still see the small stations which have witnessed many historic events over the years, from world wars to the 1956 Winter Olympics held in Cortina.
It is an itinerary open to all, connected to the north with the major towns in the Pusteria valley towards Austria, and to the south towards Venice.
Pedalling in the Dolomites is a unique experience which will allow you to enjoy the architectural beauty, tastes and traditions of these lands rich in history and legend.
